GIZ Fit for School to pilot integrated WASH and nutrition model with SEAMEO RECFON

For the year 2019, the GIZ Regional Fit for School Programme and the Regional Center for Food and Nutrition of the Southeast Asian Ministers of Education Organization (SEAMEO RECFON) agreed to jointly pilot a model for the integrated implementation and management of the water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH) and nutrition guidelines for schools by the Indonesian Ministry of Education and Culture. The model will promote basic water, sanitation, and hygiene interventions through the Delivery, Education, and Character-building pillars of Indonesia’s Schoolchildren Nutrition Program (Program Gizi Anak Sekolah or PROGAS).

Six model schools will be identified in the cities of Jakarta, Bogor, and Bandung and will receive support to strengthen their capacities on policy development and planning, resource mobilization, delivery, monitoring and evaluation, and knowledge management of WASH and nutrition activities. Beyond the model schools, the Fit for School Programme will also work together with RECFON to integrate the topic of school-based WASH management into its Massive Open Online Course (MOOC) on Nutrition and Health for Elementary School Children which will be offered to schools implementing PROGAS nationwide.
