5th WASH in Schools Learnings and Commitments Captured in Outcome Document

Since 2012, the annual WASH in Schools International Learning Exchange has been an important plattform for WASH in Schools actors from the government, development and private sector to share knowledge, experiences and align best practice approaches.

Following a series of WinS ILE events in the Philippines (2012), India (2013), Lao PDR (2014), Sri Lanka (2015), the 5th WinS ILE was hosted by the Ministry of Education and Culture of Republic of Indonesia and was held in Jakarta, Indonesia. The event brought together 160 participants from 16 countries from the regions of Southeast Asia, South Asia and the Pacific. Technical sessions and discussions, school visits and country consultations allowed participants to share expereinces and gain insights. For this year’s event, several key topics were highlighted including: Monitoring & Evaluation (M&E), Operation & Maintenance (O&M), Menstrual Hygiene Management (MHM), Handwashing, and Sustainable Financing.

The observations, learnings and commitments of participants have been captured in an outcome document. The outcome document underwent a consultative process among all participants of the event and represents their consensus on a number of key action areas. The document is jointly endorsed by the Ministry of Education and Culture of Indonesia, GIZ and Unicef.

A more comprehensive report of the 5th WinS ILE will be released later this year and shared on this website and other channels.
